Over the next two weeks, our school value focus is Faith. Faith reminds us to trust in God’s presence and guidance in all that we do. It’s about believing in ourselves, in others, and in the goodness that surrounds us. We will be helping our students see how faith can guide their choices, give them courage, and help them show kindness and hope in their everyday lives.
A reminder that Thursday 23 October will be a Strike Day for Principals, Teachers, and Support Staff across New Zealand.
Our school will be closed for instruction on this day. Thank you for your understanding and support as we work collectively for the future of education.
The following day, we also have a Teacher Only Day (Ministry allocated). School will be closed for students on that day as well. The Ministry allocates this time for professional learning and planning for the new curriculum.
Our Spell-a-thon is now underway! This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate learning while raising funds to support our school. Please take a moment to register your child if you haven’t already and encourage them to share their progress with family and friends. Every contribution helps — and the excitement is growing as classes compete for top fundraising and spelling efforts! Check out the promo video created by our students. Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we nurture our children’s learning, faith, and sense of community.

Update on St Claudine’s Structured Literacy Programme
Structured Literacy continues to be an important part of our morning routine and on any given day you can hear the programme in action between 9.50 and 10.20am. Teachers are working hard to consolidate our school-wide Structured Literacy programme and to further develop their knowledge. Their commitment has resulted in our Structured Literacy routines being embedded across the school, enabling every student to participate in daily structured lessons where new concepts are explicitly taught and reviewed in a sequenced progression. Students who require more support are identified and work in smaller groups with Ms Page.

Each term we look forward to having our iDeaL professional development provider, Jill Symonds, in the school to observe, provide feedback and continue to develop teacher knowledge about the Science of Reading. Jill is due to visit us in Week 4 of this term.

If your child is not bringing their word list home each week – please reach out and let the class teacher know so we can ensure this happens.
