Newsletter Week 1 T4,

10 October 2025

Kia Ora, Talofa lava, Bula vinaka, Namaste, Taloha Ni, Malo e lelei, Ni hao, Kia Orana, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Kumusta,

Welcome to the final term of 2025. We hope you all enjoyed a restful break and that your children are feeling great being back in the classroom. It has been lovely to welcome them back and see their smiling faces.
This term our connected curriculum focuses on these three objectives:

We can understand that our Catholic Story is important to the world.

We know we are called to be hope in the world

We can be authors of the Good News

We know that the world is in a challenging place and want our students to be able to be pilgrims of hope and share their Good News Stories with others.

Our RE curriculum focuses on this using these key learning objectives
We have a busy term ahead of us so please make sure to read the whole newsletter and note down any significant dates, so you don’t miss anything… It’s a good idea to check our Facebook Page regularly as this is where lots of our notes and updates are posted.
Have a great weekend

Planning for 2026

We are beginning our planning for 2026. If you have a child in Year 1-7 who will not be returning to St Claudine’s next year and you have not yet informed the school, please email the principal to let her know. principal@stclaudine.school.nz

Attendance Term Three

We know that there was significant illness last term and this accounts for a drop in our attendance rates however we remind parents that the Government's target is 80% of students attending 90% of the term. Let's work together this term to get those rates up and get back on track in Term Four. A reminder that the only justified absence is sickness or family bereavement - all other absences are deemed unjustified - this includes - days off to be with family, travelling, sports events and birthdays. We also urge parents to plan their holidays during school holidays rather than Term Time.

KUPE KIDS

The purpose of Kupe Kids is to:
Foster exploration of new ideas, skills, and areas of interest.
Build tuakana-teina relationships by creating mixed-age learning groups.
Promote collaboration and leadership across year levels.
Encourage student agency by offering choice and voice in learning.
Support a holistic approach to education that values personal growth, cultural identity, and lifelong learning.
How It Works
Students from different year levels are grouped together in cross-level teams.
Students participate in a variety of engaging learning workshops. These may include arts, science, technology, sports, cultural activities, environmental projects, storytelling, and more.
The modules are led by teachers and staff members who are passionate about the topic and eager to share their knowledge.
Each session is designed to be hands-on, collaborative, and student-centred.
Why the Name 'Kupe Kids'?
Kupe was a legendary Polynesian navigator known for his courage, curiosity, and deep connection to the ocean and land. Like Kupe, our students are encouraged to become explorers — seeking out new learning journeys with wonder, resilience, and a sense of adventure.

Our groups for Kupe Kids this Term include
Choir, STEM, Let’s Get Moving, Digital Design, Craft, Photography, Ukelele, Drawing and Sketching, Mini Vinnies, Kaitiaki, Drama, Cultural Art,
Take some time to ask your child what group they are in.

The Photography Group had a great start yesterday producing these amazing photos. Well Done they are fantastic. (Please see bottom of newsletter)

Fundraising Term Four

This term we are fundraising for our EOTC Activities in 2026. This includes Year 7/8 Leadership Camp and Exciting Activities for students in Years 1-6- We know life can be expensive and want every child to be able to engage in these activities so this fundraising will help us achieve that.

Our three Fundraising events are
Spell-a-Thon
School Disco
Bake Sale.
We will share more information closer to the time but make sure you mark down the dates listed in the term dates below.

Strike and Teacher Only Day

School Boards have been informally notified of planned strike action from 7am until 7pm on Thursday 23 October by employees who are members of NZEI Te Riu Roa and who are covered by the following collective agreements:
  • Primary Teachers’ Collective Agreement
  • Primary Principals’ Collective Agreement
  • Support Staff in Schools' Collective Agreement
  • Kaiārahi i te Reo and Therapists Collective Agreement
NZEI Te Riu Roa members are taking industrial action because the Government has failed to provide offers in negotiations that will ensure educators get the resources, we need to support tamariki or the pay that will attract and keep quality professionals in our schools.

Teacher Only Day Friday 24 October was planned at the beginning of the year.
There are two days allocated by the Ministry of Education for teachers to spend time understanding and navigating the changes in our English and Maths Curricula. It is important that teachers are able to delve into the new documents and to develop plans to implement the new learning into our current programmes. It also allows them to plan for report writing against the new expectations.
