St Claudine Thevenet Tuesday 3rd December 2024

A Message From The Principal

Wow we are in Week 8 and the end of the year is nearly upon us. We have had a really busy time over the last couple of weeks with Camp, cricket, Ki-o-rahi, Pasifika, Kapa Haka and Christmas in the Nui. You can read about some of these activities in this newsletter.
Our theme for this fortnight continues to be Community- Hapori. As a Catholic School we have a strong focus on Community- our school community, our Parish community and our local community. Our students also belong to a wide range of sporting and cultural communities. They have been developing an understanding of what it means to belong to a community, what responsibilities come with belonging to those groups. Have a talk with your child and find out about what communities they have been talking about in class.
Our Assessments are now all completed and report writing is well underway. We are looking forward to sharing your child’s progress with you soon. Reports will be sent home on Friday 13th December.
As we prepare for the final two weeks of school we remember with gratitude all of the amazing experiences we have been able to share with our students and our community. Yes this is a very busy time so taking a moment to reflect and be grateful helps us all in the busyness.

Have a great week

Senior Camp 2024

On a beautiful Monday morning our Yr 7/8 students boarded the bus bound for Waimanaaki Camp in Riversdale Beach. A quick stop at Henley Lake in Masterton and then on to Riversdale.
Students were eager to find out their cabin groups and the activities they were going to engage in while at Camp.
Our first activity was sand sculptures. Some amazing sculptures. Check out the movies in this newsletter.
Our days were then filled with kayaking, slip’n’slide, trust walk, lagoon swimming and sports and games…… not to mention the night games.
The meals were amazing and nutritious- it was great to see everyone enjoying their food and sometimes even having seconds.
On Thursday we offered our services to the Riversdale Beach Community- One group cleaned the church and weeded the Church gardens, two other groups learned about dune planting and helped weed the new planting and one group did a rubbish hunt around the village. It was great to give something back to the community who hosted us for the week.
We have some people to thank for helping us get to camp and the amazing time we had at camp
First off all to our School board who contributed to the camp
Secondly to you our school community for supporting all of our fundraising efforts
Bike-a-thon, Bake Sale One and Two, Disco and Sausage Sizzle and Ice Blocks – thanks to your generosity we raised $7357.08.
Thanks to the parent helpers
Mr Tavoi -Sculptor extraordinaire
Mr Fa’apusa- Videographer extraordinaire
Mr Maloney- Fitness stretcher extraordinaire

We all had a fabulous time and look forward to the next time

Christmas in the Nui

On Saturday Rata whānau students participated in the local Christmas in the Nui event. They were so excited to share their carols with the community and show their talents on the bucket drums. It was wonderful to see so many students involved and representing their school with pride. What a wonderful way to contribute our gifts and talents - sharing ourselves in our local community. A big thank you to all our families who came out to support us and the staff that joined us from STC.

Year 7 and 8 Ki o Rahi

The Year 7 and 8 Ki o Rahi tournament at St. Bernard's College was an exciting and rewarding day for all involved. Both teams participated admirably, prioritizing sportsmanship and enjoyment despite many players being new to the game. As the day progressed, students learned new strategies and adapted their gameplay, showcasing determination and teamwork. Throughout the tournament, they consistently modeled our school values of respect, integrity, service, and compassion in their interactions with teammates and opponents alike. It was a fantastic opportunity for growth, fun, and representing our school with pride.

Non Stop Cricket

During week 7 of term 4, a number of our Year 4 and 5 students participated in a non-stop cricket festival at Bryan Heath Park. They enjoyed the beautiful sunshine walking to and from the park as we were blessed with a sunny day! While participating in the festival, they learned the rules of non-stop cricket as well as cricket skills such as striking and throwing. They put these skills to good use, playing against various other primary schools from Wainuiomata. The Year 4 and 5's represented St. Claudine's with pride, and showed great sportsmanship the whole morning. Not only did they cheer each other on, but they also offered encouragement to the other teams at the festival! They had a blast, and learned a lot. Way to go, St. Claudine's!
