Welcome to the end of a very busy, interactive and fun filled term. We have celebrated so many special events this term from the most amazing reopening of our school hall to sporting events, science roadshow, Science fair, Kapa Haka, Pasifika, Inati Pacific Leadership, Social Justice Week and so many sporting opportunities including two weeks of swimming. Don’t be surprised if your children are a little tired and looking forward to a rest – I know the staff are.
Thank you for your support of our events this term- we appreciate the volunteers on trips, the coaches of sports teams, the visitors to our assembly and those who visited the Science Fair- your involvement fills our students with a sense of gratitude and pride.
Today it’s time to be grateful for our term and to look forward to some special time with family and friends over the holiday break.
We wish you all a great holiday with the chance to refresh and recharge your batteries.
Don’t forget to turn your clocks forward on Saturday night as daylight savings begins and brings us the promise of sunny evenings for the next few months.

Camp Bike-a-Thon
On Wednesday 25 September the students in Year 7/8 took part in their camp fundraising bike-a thon. Students got sponsors and donations. They rode in a team taking turns to complete 5 laps. The money raised will reduce the overall cost for everyone for the camp.
The students did an amazing job- in total the group cycled 1095 laps which translated into 273 kilometres. Well done team- we are proud of your efforts.
Look out for a few more fundraising events early next term

Mahuru Festival
On Thursday 19th September the Year 7 and 8 Kapa group performed in Brewtown , Upper Hutt, at the Mahuru Festival.
We sung E te Atua, He RouRou and Whakataka.
Did everyone work well as a group?
Everyone worked well and were awesome. We all enjoyed it and had loads of fun.
How did our group show commitment?
We all showed commitment by working together as a team and showing respect to other schools that were participating in the Mahuru Festival.
What did it feel like performing in your group and with other schools?
We were all excited to see other schools at the Mahuru Festival and also had fun watching their great performances.
We learnt new kapa haka waiata. We also learnt the Kama te kama te haka and actions to it as well, and the girls learnt poi. Our tutors, Matua Peko and Whaea Angie, explained the meanings of the songs we were learning so we had a good understanding of the lyrics.
Thank you to Ms Page and Mrs Wilson for preparing us and supporting us at the festival.

Social Justice Day
On Tuesday 10th September a group of Year 8 students and I attended a Social Justice Day at the Ricoh Sports Centre in Lower Hutt. We were joined at the event by other Catholic primary schools and St Bernard’s College. While we were there we worked in groups and participated in different activities learning about the meaning and actions related to social justice. In one of the activities we had to work together to solve puzzles and answer questions about social justice. We also looked at videos and painted peace rocks. The Social Justice Day event was a great way to connect and learn about people from different schools around Lower Hutt and I enjoyed it very much.
Our Social Justice Day was a great opportunity to learn and connect with other people. While we were there we split into groups and learnt about justice, peace and forgiveness. It was a great event and we were happy and grateful to be asked to participate.
At the Social Justice Day event we explored the themes for Justice and peace that we have been covering over the past few years. Social Justice Day helped me to step out of my comfort zone because I socialised with new people outside of my friendship and whānau group. My favourite part of the day was meeting new people, sharing ideas about justice and having a special lunch that my Mum prepared for me for the day.
