Thank you all so much for your efforts on Friday for our Reunification Day Drill. This drill was to ensure the safety of our students in an emergency and that our systems were fit for purpose.

We have reviewed our processes and for the most part they worked as they should. The main issue we faced was the use of the Alert to advise parents the Evacuation Drill had commenced and parents/ caregivers were free to come and pick up the students in their care. Despite our best efforts the alert was not received by everyone, and this was due to a range of reasons:

Some parents were expecting a text,
|
|
Other parents had not downloaded the school App
|
And other parents had not subscribed to receive the alerts on the school App.
|
|
The feedback from parents expressing challenges with the App has led us to review our communication system. To ensure every parent is able to receive notifications from the school at any time we have moved from the School App to our Student Management System (eTAP). In this system we are able to text parents from a school phone. We trialled this with one senior class this morning and the text was successfully received. There is nothing parents need to do to be able to receive the texts.

Please rest assured that all children were safe and cared for whilst we awaited their parent’s arrival. I know there were some parents who were understandably upset with their child having to wait so long and that staff did not contact them.

We wanted this evacuation drill to be as authentic as possible and followed the guidelines set out in our policy.
|
|
We have done all we can now to ensure that in an actual emergency evacuation parents will receive a text with advice and guidance for collection of their children.
|
