Welcome to Week 6- as the cooler mornings arrive we know we are headed towards Autumn. The seasons come and they go but the joy of each one is ours to discover.
Our Value this week is Inspiration and students have been exploring things/ people and experiences that inspire them. When I think of inspiration I often think about writing that stirs my soul. I thought I would share this small piece of writing and hope that it inspires you too
Like the joy of the sea coming home to shore, May the relief of laughter rinse through your soul.
As the wind loves to call things to dance, May your gravity by lightened by grace.
Like the dignity of moonlight restoring the earth, May your thoughts incline with reverence and respect.
As water takes whatever shape it is in, So free may you be about who you become.
As silence smiles on the other side of what's said, May your sense of irony bring perspective.
As time remains free of all that it frames, May your mind stay clear of all it names.
May your prayer of listening deepen enough to hear in the depths the laughter of god.”
We know people are inspired by many different things- It might be a great whānau conversation- what are each of you inspired by?

Curriculum 2025
You will be aware that there are two new curricula- Maths and English. We have been busy planning our implementation for both. As with all new things it takes time to understand what is required, along with what teachers need to know and be able to do.
Our English curriculum is being planned by our Literacy Team – led by Ms Page. Our first steps with this curriculum are to introduce a school wide writing process – a process that uses the same model and language across our school. We are working to ensure that handwriting and structured literacy routines are in place. We are also looking at the expectations of the English Curriculum in relation to reading and writing. Ask your child what they have been doing in Literacy so far this term.
Our Maths curriculum has changed quite considerably and this has meant it has taken us a little longer to get to the full implementation stage. Thus far each child from year 3-8 has taken a placement test. This test result gives us a starting point for each child’s learning. We are now in the process of sorting and allocating resources for classrooms. These resources include Maths books and hands on materials.
During this planning stage all classes are still engaged with the new curriculum learning with teacher support and relevant activities.
We hope to have all resources sorted and allocated every soon.
We will update you regularly and let you know how you can support your child.

Special Character Evaluation
Next week we have three special visitors at school – Zita Smith- Evaluator, Anna-Maria Vissers- Religious Education Advisor and Jen Iouanu- Accompanying Principal. These three make up the evaluation team. They will be at school from Monday to Wednesday. During their visit they will talk with the leadership team, staff, students, the Board and parents. The Evaluation process is designed to assist the school to provide authentic Catholic education, which is always aspirational and focused on continual improvement and transformation. Our last evaluation was held in 2019.
As part of the process of evaluation the team ask for parents to complete a small survey to give some insight from a parent perspective. So please take 5-10 mins and fill this in – this survey goes directly to the lead Evaluator.
Thank you for your input.

Yes we are a moving March School…..
Each child has a passport and is able to get it stamped when they walk, scooter or cycle to school – We would like to remind parents that the purpose of Moving March is to get children moving more than they normally would- you can help get your children moving by dropping them further away from school and get them to walk the rest of the way.
We do not want to disappoint students by saying they can’t have a stamp but if they are getting out of a car close to school and then just walking to the gate this doesn’t count as moving more. There are plenty of safe spaces to drop children off in Rata St, Totara Street, Konini Street, Karamu Crescent and even Wainuiomata Road. The road patrol are on site from 8.15-8.40 so will be there to help students cross safely.

When the passport is filled there will be a box in the office to place completed passports and then the Moving March team will be distributing prizes.
